Week #5 Blog Discussion

In honor of our Strength Exercises this week please share

What you feel your Strengths Are!

These could be in any of the 3 areas that we are working on, or any other
strengths you can think of.

I'll Go First.

I feel like one of my strengths is that I can be a lot like Dory, from Finding Nemo.  She is a cup-half-full kind of girl.  She sees tries to see the good in people around her, even off-the -wagon sharks and large, lumbering whales who don't speak her language.  She is feisty enough to hold an ornery crab above her head to be taken seriously.  She is often too trusting, but she is loyal and true to the ones she loves.  And though she may be a little ditzy sometimes, she presses on, even when discouraged:  "Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming."  Plus, she sings a lot to pass the time....

  1. One of my strengths is being forgiving. I find it hard to hold a grudge because I have the desire to love and understand those around me. Because of my ability to easily forgive, it makes it easy for me to let things go. When I think about it, picking my battles is really what it comes down to. I can decide what is worth debating or fighting for and what is not. Picking my battles has likely saved me a lot of time and breath and I'm grateful for that.

    1. Amy, I have noticed this about you and it's a great strength. You take a lot of teasing and heat being the youngest child and you handle it well. You are great at picking your battles and easily forgiving others, I love this about you!

  2. Heather - I ADORE Dory and I ADORE you! Love your post!
I would say that one of my strengths is that I'm a good friend. I love people and am very loyal to my friends. I enjoy being with them, serving them, and sharing with them. I have been truly blessed with amazing friends!

    1. I am with you Erin I love Dory. BUT she can't compare to Miss Heather and how wonderful and loving she is.

Erin, you are always thinking of other and serving them. Not only do you say you are a loyal friend and sister but you show it with you actions.

  3. This is Brad. One of my strengths is that I am pretty aware of how others are feeling. I feel like I do a good job (no where near perfect) at knowing if someone is happy, hurt, sad, left out, etc. and knowing how to help them. This is especially true with close friends and family members.

    1. Brad,
That is an amazing quality. I think Emily is a lucky woman to have you watching out for her.

  4. Very hard question... I feel like I am good at giving service. I like to do things for others that may be feeling down, hoping to brighten their day.

  5. My strength, if I have one, is helping others; I think you in the family know what I mean. It helps to have a pickup truck. Ed (he who still is the unknown blogger).

    2. Your pickup truck is not the reason you're great at serving others. It's only convenient that you can use it to help them.

  6. Um...okay...so I guess I'd have to say that my strength is...strength? I've had all kinds of crazy things happen in my life and there always seems to be my share of more around the corner but I've managed to stay (mostly) sane through it all and can always seem to keep on movin' on.

    1. This is an amazing strength! I admire this about you. Life hands us all kinds of challenges and remaining strong in the face of them is what life is all about.

    2. I know it hasn't been easy "earning" the strength you have, but you are a great example to me!

  7. This is a hard question because I feel like sometimes our greatest strengths can also be our greatest weaknesses sometimes too. But nonetheless, I feel like one of my greatest strengths is patience with other people, especially children.

    1. Emily I have to 100% agree with you, this is why I am having a hard time with this question. My greatest strengths often are also my weaknesses.
YOu are very patient especially with kids, I admirer your patience with Xander during piano because I struggle a ton when we practice together.

  8. PoemGnome is currently dealing with Google stuck in Italian (lol) and she's in Maryland so she emailed me the following:

"I believe one of my strengths is to bloom where I am planted and to not let the negative influences and experiences from the past consume my present or deny me joy in the knowledge of my future."

  10. I'm very hesitant to answer this question the way that I would ordinarily because it is not reflected by my points during this challenge. But I claim pregnancy brain and pregnancy body. However, when that is not the case, I usually feel one of my strengths is perseverance. I don't give up without a fight. Not that I have mastered everything I have ever done by any stretch of the imagination. here are very few things I have become very very good at but I pretty much always just keep trying until I succeed to some degree.

    1. I agree...I don't know how many times she's reminded me to do one thing or another... I could usually procrastinate and wait till my parents or sister forgot but not rachel :p

  11. My biggest strength is being naive, that way I treat people like they should be treated and not what they deserve. j/k. I (probably like many of you) find it hard to define a strength because I find so many flaws in myself with the things I'm good at doing...so I guess one of my strengths is humility. :D But if I had to pick one to talk about it would probably be my understanding of others. I try really hard to put myself in the shoes of others and try to be there for them.

  12. Here is Christene's Comment. The Blog won't let her on... Darn Blog!

"I am going to reply to the blog here since it will not let me comment. I think one of my strengths is my ability to listen. In high school, and even now, I have people show up on my doorstep to talk. I don't have words of wisdom, just a listening ear. I also have the strength of not being able to remember anything, which means your secrets are safe with me.

    1. Christene, you are so funny! I can't remember anything, either, but never thought of that as a strength before! I can see what you mean by your comment, though. In the few times I have been able to talk with you, you were SO easy to talk with. And you DID listen well!

    2. Hey, it was great for me. I could always tell jokes over and over. Also I didn't have to worry when she would yell at me and say "I'm gonna tell mom when she gets home!" :D

  13. The things I see as my own strengths often other people see as faults, so if you disagree here, you're one of the "other people."

For better or worse, I've almost always been able to do pretty much what I set out to do, or try to do, or plan to do. That's backfired a good number of times, and I imagine that's how I'm supposed to learn, but it is what it is.

  14. The strength that came to mind for me is an ability to apply lessons, experiences, and principles to other areas of my life. This served me well in grad school, especially since I was studying something that had not been my major discipline in college. It also leads me to discover some valuable lessons in unlikely circumstances, turning unexpected activities into learning experiences. I've prepared lessons for church based on experiences had while mountain biking; I've been taught the important place of humility while setting up lines for rock climbing (and then got a reminder in humility while actually climbing); and time spent in and on the ocean has taught me lessons about more things than I could even list.

  15. I think one my strengths is that I am to be able to think quickly on my feet and adapt to changing situations. When a problem arises I can usually quickly fix the situation or find an alternative to the situation on the spot.
I can't tell you how many times I have been teaching school and a lesson go wrong or craft fails and I am able to find a quick solution or think of another way to solve the problem. There are many times I have smiled to myself and thought where in the world did that idea come from it totally saved the day.
